BC/DC, Killing In The Name Of

Sat. May 12th 2018 9:00 PM at Capital Ballroom Victoria BC (No Minors) 9:00 PM
Tickets at: Lyles Place
There are tribute bands, and then there's BCDC. They were born of bush party ashes in the summer of 1999. Some 800 unexpected gigs later, Canada's BC/DC has systematically redefined the concept of a tribute band, garnering iconic status amongst diehard fans, agents, and venues from Vancouver BC to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From the backyard biker bashes of Ymir, to the star-studded legendary rooms of Las Vegas. From Nelson BC to New York City, Shanghai China and Bangkok Thailand. While a web search will turn up dozens of AC/DC cover acts around the world, there aren't likely many who've so successfully branded the Aussie band's timeless raunch with such epic rock n' roll fury, while also managing to bottle the essence of a wild frontier lifestyle.

Unlike many tribute acts claiming to be "North America's #1 Clone" or "Just Like the Real Thing", BC/DC has turned the tables. The band takes a comedic approach, claiming the tunes as their own, and to having "heard of some BC/DC tribute band from Australia". They rarely give factual interviews to big city press. Adding to the schtick, the band members all go by comic aliases - lead singer Brendan Raftery's Brian "Bon" Johnscottson paying respects to both AC/DC's famous frontmen. It's working. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

BC/DC's live show has become a legendary, and necessary, "rite-of-passage" amongst their unwavering supporters and believers. With over-the-top stage energy, they deliver every last note of all the classic songs with absolute authority. You get tired just watching them. BC/DC is heavily rooted in the Bon Scott-era catalog (Dirty Deeds, TNT, Jailbreak, Let There Be Rock), but also covers AC/DC's second "golden era" with all the essentials; Back in Black, For Those About to Rock, Hells Bells, and many more. Hey, there's always another AC/DC tune.. and BC/DC always seems more than eager to blast it out.

SLEEP SCIENCE

Sleep Science was formed when vocalist/guitarist Taylor Nichol, bassist Dan Lomonaco and drummer Alex Moscrip all got together after working in many different bands and projects. Based in Vancouver, BC, they draw influences from all over to create their distinct, progressive/alternative-rock sound, which is hard-hitting, yet groovy, with deviant time signatures, articulate bass lines and wailing, sometimes ambient guitar work.

Eager to hit the studio almost immediately after forming, the band recorded their first EP Avoiding The Cure with Ryan Worsley, who’s produced acts including Dear Rouge, Derrival, and Little India. With their unique sound and tight live shows they started to build a loyal following on the West Coast. To kick off 2016, the guys flew down to LA and recorded their single Tears For The Money with Rick Parker (The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Scott Weiland). The song has been featured on major rock radio stations across Canada and has been praised by Vancouver DJ Todd Handcock as being one of “the top 5 indie songs of 2016”.

In 2017, Sleep Science took their show on the road for a successful cross Canada tour which took them as far east as Montreal. The band also headed back down to LA to record 3 more songs with Rick Parker. October saw the first single, Sounds of the Underground released to heavy plays and rave reviews. The song showcases the band’s ability to juxtapose heavy grunge rock with haunting melodies and tastefully executed arrangements. Screamer Magazine described the song as “a masterpiece of what really good indie rock music is all about" and Alternative Nation said that “it hits you in the face with Nirvana Riffage". Their followup single, We Could Never Be was co-written with producer Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run) and is already generating attention after its release. Sleep Science has big plans for 2018 including international performances and returning to the studio to record their next EP. http://www.sleepscienceband.com http://www.facebook.com/sleepsciencemusic http://www.twitter.com/sleepsciencevan http://www.instagram.com/sleepscience

SONDEROUS

Guitarist/vocalist Tyrell Beal and drummer Travis Chrysler met in Nanaimo, BC in 2012. Having left school shortly after starting, Beal spent his time writing and hoping to find someone to start a project with for a few years while Chrysler performed in thrash bands and finished up his diploma in jazz drumming. As fate would have it, the two ended up relocating to Victoria BC only a few months apart from each other, both with the desire to pursue music in a new city.

After each ended up with endeavors that didn’t work out, the two decided to start working together. It wasn’t long before they realized they were on the same page musically and decided to get a house together so they could focus on the music in more depth.

Soon after, old friend and bassist Zach Cameron joined the duo and things clicked even more. About a year into writing songs with the three members, Sonderous finally found their final member, Dylan Lammie, a young rock/blues phenom that Beal had met while working at a music store. With their solid 4 member lineup, the group began the recording of their EP in summer 2016. The rest as they say, is history.
